Fred McMurtrey
Fred is President of F. L. McMurtrey Construction, Inc. He was introduced to the construction industry at the age of 10 by his grandfather. Fred is trained as an electrician and earned his Bachelor of Science in Construction Management degree from The University of Florida in 1985. Fred and his grandfather founded FLM one year later. With over 40 years of experience in the construction industry, he takes a personal interest in developing a relationship with each of our clients and providing quality projects completed in a timely manner. He is active in the community, serving in leadership at Rio Vista Community Church, Bible Study Fellowship, and is a former City of Oakland Park Planning & Zoning Board member.
Robert McMurtrey
Rob is Vice President and Project Manager of F. L. McMurtrey Construction, Inc. He has worked in construction with his father, Fred, since high school. After graduating from Westminster Academy in 2008, he earned his Bachelor of Science in Construction Management degree in 2012 and Masters of Science in Management degree in 2013 from the University of Florida. He worked for a large General Contractor in Atlanta, gaining project management experiences with a CMAA award-winning project management team. Rob brings large company experience that will grow FLM for the next generation. He and his wife, Jessica, are parents of two. Rob is involved in the community through Rio Vista Community Church and Sons of Bosses.
Debi McMurtrey
Debi is Office Manager for F.L. McMurtrey Construction, Inc. She holds a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education from The University of Florida. After teaching for 10 years in Ft. Lauderdale, she joined FLM, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the family business. Debi and Fred are parents of 2 grown children and their spouses, as well as grandparents of two children. Debi enjoys time spent with family and friends and is involved in her church.
Brian Mcgrew
Brian has worked as Lead Superintendent of F.L. McMurtrey Construction, Inc. for more than 25 years. Prior to joining our company, he worked at Hallmark Construction. A native of Fort Lauderdale, Brian has been a certified welder and offshore paramedic. He oversees projects on site from start to finish, managing and scheduling subcontractors and communicating with our clients. Representing FLM Construction with integrity and an eye for detail, he is appreciated by our clients and valued by our company. Brian and his wife, Libby, have a passion for mentoring children in Foster Care.
Doug Riedel
Doug is a Superintendent for F.L. McMurtrey Construction, Inc. He has over 20 years of experience in the construction industry, specializing in windows and doors in the residential and commercial sector. With a value for building relationships in the workplace, Doug seeks to foster repeat business and quality project completion. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife, three children, and two grandchildren, as well as grilling, landscaping, golfing, and going for walks.
Ray Apruzzese
Ray is a Project Manager and Superintendent for F.L. McMurtrey Construction, Inc. He began working in residential construction in 2014 before transitioning to a career in commercial construction and earning a Bachelors of Science degree in Construction Management from FIU. Originally born in Boston, he has lived in Broward County for over a decade and is a graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas High School, class of 2014. As a high school Football State and National Champion and former NCAA Baseball Student Athlete, Ray is team-oriented and approaches his work from a positive and motivated perspective. He has been involved in the community through Partners in Time with his father for the past decade. In his free time, Ray enjoys fishing, boating, hunting, and playing golf.
Emily McMurtrey Yan
Emily is Controller for F.L. McMurtrey Construction, Inc. She holds a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology and Masters of Arts in Mental Health Counseling. Emily grew up in Fort Lauderdale and is a graduate of Westminster Academy, class of 2011. Prioritizing efficiency and respect, she has proven to be a good fit at FLM. Emily enjoys art, music, an active lifestyle, and traveling with her family and friends.
Kenton Hajdic
Kenton is Field Superintendent and Project Manager at F.L. McMurtrey Construction, Inc. With over 40 years of diverse experience across sales, service, landscaping, and construction industries, Kenton has honed his expertise in fostering productive work environments through collaboration, strong leadership, and team engagement. His career is built on strong relationships with both contractors and customers, ensuring successful outcomes across various projects. Kenton graduated from Cardinal Gibbons High School in 1979 and earned a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Florida State University in 1983. He has a strong presence in his community, having served for six years on the Lighthouse Point Community Appearance Board. He is currently a member of the Planning and Zoning Board and has been awarded the Key to the City by the Mayor for his role in initiating and managing two major City events. Outside of his professional life, Kenton enjoys spending time with his wife of 33 years and their two sons. His hobbies include fishing, diving, hunting, and driving race cars.
Matt Smith
Matt is the Director of Residential Construction at F.L. McMurtrey Construction, Inc. Before transitioning Full-time into the construction industry, Matt devoted 14 years to serving the community as a professional firefighter, demonstrating unwavering commitment and resilience in high-pressure situations. During his service as a firefighter, he also thrived as a professional real estate consultant, guiding hundreds of clients through the complexities of buying, restoring, and reselling residential properties over a 14 year period. In addition, Matt operated a real estate investment network in which his role was Underwriting investments, construction project management, and navigating the resale for an ROI. This extensive experience has endowed him with profound insights into residential real estate.
Jared Gowdy
Jared is a Field Superintendent for F.L. McMurtrey Construction, Inc. He grew up working in carpentry with his father and brothers since he was in elementary school. Prior to joining the FLM team, Jared was an independent sub-contractor in Virginia and South Florida. He studied management and health/human performance at Roanoke College and is CPR and First Aid certified. Jared has also spent 5 years working in operations at the Berglund Center in Roanoke, VA, doing change-overs for the Harlem Globe Trotters and Virginia Tech. In his free time, Jared loves sports and coaches high school baseball and football. He is dedicated to hard work and taking the extra steps to do something the right way. Jared also loves fishing and outdoor activities.
